Report: Jackson, Fisher to talk about Knicks job this week

Knicks president Phil Jackson is expected to meet with Derek Fisher about the team’s head-coaching opening this week, FOX Sports 1/Yahoo NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Fisher, who was a reserve guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, has long been rumored to be in the mix to fill New York’s coaching vacancy after Steve Kerr, who initially was Jackson’s top candidate, opted to coach the Warriors instead of the Knicks.

Jackson was fined $25,000 on Monday for a tampering violation involving Fisher, who won five titles playing under Jackson with the Lakers. Jackson continues to target candidates with no coaching experience who also played for the 11-time NBA championship-winning coach.

The Lakers, who were also reportedly interested in Fisher as their next head coach, have cooled on the idea, according to Wojnarowski. Los Angeles has so far only interviewed candidates with coaching experience to replace Mike D’€™Antoni.
